Yarn Bases
There are so many squishy yarn bases available, so this is the place to find out a bit more about all of them!
There are two sections: The Basics, which are always available, and The Guests, that dip in and out depending on the season and the collection!
The Basics
SW Merino DK
100% 19.5-micron Superwash Merino - 225 meters/100g
A gorgeous, plump, DK weight yarn with a slight sheen to it. Takes the dye beautifully!
Comfort
100% Superwash Merino Wool - 450m /100g
Now this is an odd one - despite the long meterage, this knits up as a heavy fingering/sport weight. I use it for a lot of sport weight patterns, which means you don't have to use as much yarn!
Hesiod
75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon - 425m /100g
Perfect if you're after a more traditional fingering/4ply weight yarn! Works great for socks, but if, like me, you're not a sock knitter it's also great for both garments and other accessories!
Night Sky
75% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Nylon, 5% Gold stellina sparkle - 400m /100g
Just like Hesiod, this works great both for socks, as well as garments and other accessories. Night Sky also contains gold stellina, which looks especially eye catching on darker yarns. If you're too scared to use it in a full project, why not use it in a colourwork yoke?
Bourgeois
80% Superwash Merino Wool / 20% Silk - High Twist - 365m /100g
One of my absolute favourites - I use this a lot for loose drapey summer tops. The silk content gives it a lovely sheen, and the knit fabric drapes beautifully.
The Guests
Alpaca Cotton Air
51% Baby Alpaca, 49% Peruvian Pima Cotton -Non-Superwash, air blown - 300m /100g
A magical yarn! Soft like kittens, and despite it's 300m length, it knits up much thicker than you'd expect! Depending on needle size it can work for anything between DK-Chunky weight patterns! Great for those patterns that hold a fluff together with something else, but without the need to use two yarns in this instance!
Silky Boucle
70% Silk, 30% Super Fine Merino - Non-Superwash, Boucle Spin - 400m /100g
Such a fun yarn - the boucle spin creates a slightly bobbly yarn, and the high silk content makes it super soft! It's great fun to use as a contrast in a colourwork yoke, for some added texture fun.
Yak Silk
60% Superwash Merino Wool / 20% Silk / 20% Yak - 366m / 100g
A gorgeous luxury yarn with yak and silk. The yak being a darker fibre it results in a yarn that's darker on all colours. The silk also adds a lovely drape. This is one of my favourites!
Merlin Sock
80% Non-Superwash Merino, 20% Linen - 400m/100g
This is a great option for a natural sock! The linen gives some extra strength, but you don't need to use Nylon. Being a non-superwash yarn, and the addition of linen, means it dyes up a little more muted than other bases. I like to use this for summer knits!
Mohair Singles
56% Superwash Merino, 44% Mohair - single ply - 400m/100g
A gorgeous yarn - the mohair content adds a lovely sheen, but unlike classic mohair this hasn't been brushed, so only has a slight halo. Perfect for shawls and short sleeved tops!
Suri Fluff
65% Baby Suri Alpaca, 35% Silk - 400m/50g
A great fluff yarn - brushed suri is softer than a brushed mohair, so it's great if you're sensitive to mohair. Hold it on it's own, or together with something else!
Cash Fluff
53% Super Baby Alpaca (19.5 Micron), 34% Silk, 13% Cashmere - 400m/50g
A more luxurious brushed alpaca yarn - the addition of cashmere makes it soft like kittens!
